Step back in time this July 6th at our 1930s-themed Sinners Juke Joint — a one-night-only experience filled with live blues, juke joint jazz, and foot-stompin’ rhythm that’ll shake the floorboards. Enjoy Southern staples like fried catfish, cornbread, and sweet tea while you take part in immersive scenes that bring the era to life. Juke joints were lively, informal establishments that emerged in the rural South during the early 20th century, especially in African American communities. Often located on the outskirts of town or in the backrooms of businesses, they served as safe havens for music, dancing, and late-night gatherings away from the scrutiny of segregation laws. Known for their raw blues, soul food, and gritty charm, juke joints laid the groundwork for modern American music culture.

As history shows us, Juke Joints were celebratory gatherings done in response to uncertain times. In the same spirit, we want to tap into the practices of those before us and congregate, dance, eat and sing rather than crumble at the economic and political climate we are facing today.
Additionally, Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ film has reignited in all generations a love for the unmistakable soul in early 20th century American South music!

Open from 10PM to 2AM for a night of Southern rhythm and soul. Guests are encouraged to dress in era-inspired attire: think suspenders, fedoras, flapper dresses, or vintage workwear, honoring the style of the early 20th century juke joints that gave rise to blues and Black cultural expression. Live performers may roam the space for an immersive experience. This is a dry event — no alcohol will be served — to keep the vibes safe and soulful. We ask that all guests show respect to each other, our staff, and our performers. Absolutely no physical altercations will be tolerated — violators will be removed immediately. Let’s keep it smooth, respectful, and unforgettable.

The SMOKESTACK Juke Joint will be this summer - July 6th - at 10pm around the DFW area! We are currently in talks with a couple locations in the area that are interested in hosting us and are engaging in visitations to ensure the best venue for our one of a kind night!

This project is not officially affiliated with the film ‘Sinners’ or any production company that holds the copyrights to that work. SMOKESTACK is merely a creative play on the name of the real-world blues duo Smokestack Lightning, and is used here in a non-commercial, parody context. Our event draws aesthetic inspiration from the Southern gothic tone of the film to create a unique, immersive juke joint experience. A significant portion of the funds raised will go directly toward supporting local youth and emerging creatives by funding film production opportunities in our community.

Michael Hillis the CEO and creative force behind MicHill Entertainment, an award-winning production company based in Mansfield, Texas. Born in Orange, Texas—a small town on the Louisiana border known for its rich Southern culture—Michael was immersed in music from an early age, with a choir-singing mother and a father who was a producer. His upbringing in a musical family, coupled with his experience directing film projects and hosting live events and premieres, has honed his ability to create immersive experiences. As the showrunner and producer of the Smokestack Juke Joint, Michael brings his deep roots in Southern culture and his extensive experience in the entertainment industry to craft an authentic 1930s-inspired event.

Amari Stephenson
PERFORMER
Amari Stephenson is a Texas Southern University student majoring in Theater with a minor in Radio, Television, and Film. Born in Grand Prairie and rooted in the rich traditions of Peach Creek, TX, Amari’s Southern heritage and lifelong dedication to the arts fuel her dynamic presence on stage. As the co-founder and president of Black Girl Brunch, and a member of Alpha Psi Omega, she blends leadership with performance. Amari made her film debut as Celia in Grandma’s Sweet Potato Pie, releasing this August. A poet, singer, dancer, and part-time middle school theater teacher in South Houston, Amari lives and breathes creativity. With a family legacy of pastors, she carries both spiritual depth and cultural authenticity—making her a natural fit as a character performer for the Smokestack Juke Joint.
